Alright.

First, hello to everyone! :-)

There seems to be a lot of curiosity as to what the hell Dave and I are doing these days; what are our intentions and what's the holdup with our trip. I figured I would write a brief blog to summarize past, present, and future.

As most of you know, Dave and I had want to go on the path-less-taken. Our first choice was to drive down to, say, Nicaragua,  and try our luck there. As fate would have it, our departure date lined up nicely with Mexico's unravelling due to the drug cartel. Drinking in a dark bar, sulking about our situation, we haphazardly came up with Plan B: buy a sailboat and see if we could travel south this way. We have spent a year setting up for long-term cruising, as well as learning how to sail and pretty much just getting the feel for what it means to be a cruiser. In that timeframe, we also had a few hard truths to face. The most prevalent; doing all these things with a dog like McKinley.  Entering numerous countries with her will be challenging at best, there will be times when we won't be able to access shore for more than a day (like every mammal, she'll need to do her business), in addition we've come to realize that she's not comfortable in public areas (putting her, others and ourselves at risk for 'fill in the blank').  We had considered trying to give her to family but ultimately we feel like this is cheating her. Her sacrifice has been just as hard is ours, if not more, and we feel like dumping her off now would be cheap.

This is where our decision to delay cruising comes in.  We intend on going to the Bahamas for a little while, once we are able to leave our friend's house in Orlando.  This is something both of us would like to accomplish before we move onto the next chapter in our lives - which is extremely open.

We intend on selling the boat after our quick Bahamas trip (this is something we'd both like to come back to when the day comes that we don't have a furry mate onboard). We're both interested in completing the NOHLS course for Wilderness First Responder/EMT certification. If we're lucky, this might put us in an advantage for continuing our aspirations to travel.

Otherwise - we're just going to see where the wind takes us.
